                                                    SOFA CRAFT'S HISTORY

In 1965 James Jefferies stumbled upon a furniture store with a for sale sign in the window. Looking for a way to support his growing family, he took a loan out against his house and purchased the store that day. He changed the store's business model by offering  his customers the lowest prices around on high quality sofas. This eventually paid off for him as his store became so successful that he was able to open five more locations. Over the next 20 years James pioneered new ways of selling furniture and became so renowned in the Los Angeles furniture scene that reporters from as far as Japan were writing articles about him and his business.
In the 1980’s James decided to retire by passing the business on to his son Donny. Donny opened a sofa factory to enhance the quality and variety of their products, but by the early 1990’s the furniture industry was suffering a bad recession. Donny solved this problem by closing the companies huge stores and replaced them with small warehouse showrooms where the customers could custom order exactly what the wanted rather than picking from a limited supply of inventory. This allowed Sofa Craft to thrive while it's competitors all went bankrupt.
In 2006 Donny passed the family business on to his son Ryan, who while in high school had already started four businesses of his own. Ryan took over Sofa Craft just as the economy was entering another serious recession. Yet despite the terrible business conditions, Ryan managed to double Sofa Craft's sales while reducing it's overhead costs. Today, Sofa Craft's small warehouse showrooms outsell the 30,000 square foot showrooms of it's past. Their model of offering their customers high quality custom furniture at the lowest prices continues to allow them to thrive. Sofa Craft is the first choice for numerous California designers and its furniture is frequently shipped all over the the world. Over the years Sofa Craft has sold to everyone from the legendary actor John Wayne to the critically acclaimed "Oprah Winfrey Show".
